Day Two @ MAK
Thursday was a busy day at EMERGENT<IMG> / Museum Angewandte Kunst. Visitors of all ages were fascinated by the historic computer games and their immersive strength. Some people got stuck in the Great Underground Empire of Zork while others experienced the many ways to die inside Zauberschloss.
The main course “Simulation”, starting with the very first real-time interactive video game from 1958 “Tennis for Two“, shows the history of tennis simulation games until the year 1999. Including Pong in the 1970s, Atari Tennis in the 1980s and Super Tennis in the 1990s the relation of game mechanics, graphics, realism, player perspective and narrativity are investigated.
